Our children learn in small, nurturing, and creative classes to explore the freedom of our expansive, well equipped play areas. Added to this are the broader experiences offered by the “big school” – lessons in the computer lab, movement, singing and instruments in the Music and Drama departments, getting lost in story time in the Library and learning to coordinate movement in physical education and extra-curricular sports available on campus.
By the time our girls and boys are ready to move up to Grade 1, they are socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively ready and eager to face the Junior Primary phase of their education.
In order for children to be age appropriate for Grade 1, children age 3 turning 4 can be enrolled in Grade RRR.
Aftercare is included in our school fees and is available to working parents until 17h30. Our Cowan Cubs remain in our Pre Primary area until 15h30 and then join our Grade 1 – 3 boys and girls until 17h30.
Children in Grade RRR to Grade R arrive at school between 07h30 and 08h00. Freshly made sandwiches are served for tea at 10am, and a nutritious cooked lunch is an optional extra (available to those who wish) at 12 noon. This is an extra cost per term. Home time is at 12:30pm.
Our Early Childhood Development Curriculum aims to develop life-long learners. We create an atmosphere where your child feels emotionally secure and that facilitates physical growth and development. Read further down for more information on the seven different learning areas included in our ECD programme.
All our pupils, from Grade RRR to Grade 7 are served tea at 10am, with an option of a dietitian-approved lunch at midday. Should you wish to pack your child’s own lunch, you are welcome to. A water bottle and change of clothes is always useful for our Pre Primary children. Those staying at aftercare are served afternoon tea at 3:30pm.
The only compulsory items of uniform for children in Pre Primary are a Cowan House hat, backpack and two library bags. A Cowan Cubs T-shirt and Hoodie are available from the school shop which we encourage our children to wear during outings and formal school events, such as school plays and sports days.
